Reser Stadium

Reser Stadium is the home of the Oregon State Beavers’ football team. During two separate phases, J&S worked under four different contracts with general contractor Hunt-Wildish to completely rebuild the stadium’s east and south faces. J&S laid 150,000 brick on the four monument towers alone, plus an additional 100,000 CMU and 50,000 structural brick on the other structures. J&S installed the precast panels that cover the base of each building, as well as an accent stripe up the side of each tower before crowning the cap. J&S also performed the masonry work at the university’s first parking garage simultaneously to the bulk of the stadium work.

Autzen Stadium

J&S Masonry participated in the renovation and expansion of the Oregon Ducks’ football stadium in 2002 and 2003. While making numerous concession stands and ticket booths out of CMU, J&S helped add 10,000 seats to the Ducks’ maximum capacity, and the project turned the facility into a state of the art college football stadium. As of the end of the 2009 season, the University of Oregon had sold out every game since the expansion; J&S is proud to have been a part of helping make that happen.

The Wyatt
Location: Portland, OR (1205 NW Marshal)

The Wyatt (originally named the Cronin, after the site’s previous warehouse tenant) was designed by Portland’s Fletcher, Farr and Ayotte to be the jewel of Portland’s North Pearl district. It is a 15-story brick structure that contains 246 residential units above the street level retail shops. The building’s owners wanted a connection to the site’s history, so the building incorporates a large number of salvaged brick from the previous structure as a key architectural feature of the new building, and also maintains an iron truss connecting the building to the renowned Bridgeport Brewery across the street. J&S, working as a subcontractor for Andersen Construction, also provided all of the exterior scaffolding on this project. All told, J&S laid over 300,000 brick on the Wyatt , in addition to the 20,000 CMU and over 5,000 Calcium Silicate Masonry Units.

Hillsboro Telecommunications Facility
Location: Hillsboro, Oregon

Built during the spring and summer of 2008, this project consisted of a structural CMU building clad in brick. 85,000 CMU and 68,000 brick in a variety of colors went into making this aesthetically pleasing structure. J&S also built the base and pilasters for the perimeter fence, and multiple garden planters on the exterior of the building. This project won the 2009 Hammurabi Merit Award for meritorious achievement in craftsmanship.

PK Park

Constructed primarily in 2009, PK Park was the new stadium for the University of Oregon’s resurrected baseball program. Built on the footsteps of Autzen Stadium, PK Park contains 36,000 block of unique block colors and configurations. Working closely with Lease Crutcher Lewis, J&S Masonry laid the block with the intent of having a stadium that befits the stature of the University of Oregon.

Salem Hospital Patient Care Tower
Location: Salem, Oregon

Built between 2007 and 2009, the Patient Care tower is the shining new centerpiece of Salem’s central hospital. A 10-story tower with brick from base to the top of the highest elevator shaft, 200,000 brick went into the making of this immense structure. 25,000 CMU were also laid by J&S in the building’s basement and lower levels. The base of the building’s exterior featured cast stone accent pieces set by us, and J&S craftsmen laid the exterior natural stone fountain and stone walls that decorate the courtyard between the Patient Care Tower and the building to its immediate north.

Providence Portland North Pavilion

Build during 2006 and 2007, Providence’s North Pavilion 9-story tower’s principal exterior façade incorporated 290,000 brick into its exterior skin. Highly visible while driving west on the Banfield freeway, the North Pavilion also had 13,000 block and several hundred lineal feet of precast concrete bench were all furnished & installed by J&S Masonry.

Ford Hall

Completed in 2009, this classroom building shows off many aspects of outstanding masonry craftsmanship. J&S laid 90,000 brick on the exterior of the building, as well as 7,000 CMU in the building’s basement. As well as furnishing and installing the limestone panels you see in the pictures below, J&S worked closely with the engineer and architect to provide and install an engineered system that would be safe and still maintain the architect’s design. Finally, J&S furnished and installed a large quantity of precast benches and stair treads used on the interior and exterior of the building.

Keizer City Hall and Police Station

Started in 2008 and finished 2009, the most prominent architectural feature of this project is the CMU exterior. Designed in a unique ashlar pattern, over 82,000 block were meticulously laid out and placed in Group Mackenize’s striking design. The CMU police enclosure was a combination of form and function, providing the functionality of a security fence while at the same time maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the building adjacent to it. J&S Masonry also lay a number of pieces of precast concrete at benches, statues and other locations around the grounds.

Riverbend Medical Pavilion, Parking Structure #1, Parking Structure #2, Central Utility Plant, Knuckle
Riverbend Sacred Heart Campus (Springfield, OR)

Working for Turner Construction, J&S Masonry completed six distinct contracts at the Sacred Heart Campus in Springfield, Oregon between the spring of 2007 and the fall of 2008. A total of 200,000 brick and 75,000 CMU were laid in these projects, in addition to numerous columns and fireplaces made from natural stone. Two parking garages, a medical office building and the central utility plant kept J&S’ southern Willamette Valley crew busy for the better part of 18 months.

Corvallis High School
Corvallis, OR

This replacement high school, completed in 2005, was built immediately adjacent to the existing high school, requiring work next to active school facilities. In addition to placing the bulk of the decorative precast concrete, J&S laid 65,000 brick and 150,000 block over 9 months. In addition to the work at the main building, renovation work was done at other on site buildings, and further work was required at the athletic facilities on site.

Block 19: The Encore

Completed in 2008, The Encore is a 16-story residential building in the Pearl District in Portland. Working under Andersen Construction, the 130,000 white limestone brick are custom designed by Boora Architects to provide a differing textural view of the building depending on which direction you are looking from. J&S also laid 13,000 structural brick on the staircases on the north side of the balcony, creating a base accent for the tower’s north frontage. J&S also laid 17,000 block in the basement parking garage, and subcontracted the spray-on air barrier installation to Snyder Roofing.

Keizer Station

Located adjacent to I-5 right between exit 260 and the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes baseball stadium, this retail development was a grass field in 2005. It is now home to over 20 buildings, and almost 40 businesses. J&S was involved in building all of the early work in the project, including anchor tenants Lowe’s and Target, in addition to the next two major phases of the project. All told, J&S laid over 300,000 block at Keizer Station, working with three different general contractors – LCG Pence, Skanska USA, and Jackson Dean Construction.

Lincoln Street Elementary School

One of a number of schools that the Hillsboro School District was opening in the late ‘00s, Lincoln Street Elementary was the only one to use brick as its primary exterior facade. Using roughly 80,000 brick, J&S worked with Robinson Construction to create a school with a unique appearance, highlighted by its main entry archway, constructed entirely from brick. J&S also installed 13,000 CMU as structural elements of the gymnasium and auditorium

Sacred Heart Stone
Location: Springfield, OR (Sacred Heart Campus)

Working for Turner Construction, J&S performed a wide variety of work between Spring of 2007 and Fall of 2008 at the Sacred Heart campus in Springfield. In addition the masonry work on two parking structures and a medical office building, J&S performed a challenging variety of stonework. These stonework elements included limestone art panels for the buiding’s exterior, slate tile for the building ‘s chapel, exterior stone at three different hospital entrances, six small interior fireplaces, and the piece de resistance – the grand fireplace in the building’s main entry lobby. This multi-story natural stone hearth extends above the clerestory roof and is exposed to the elements above.

OSU Veterinary Medicine Large Animal Hospital Addition

Completed in 2007, J&S Masonry partnered with Lease Crutcher Lewis to build an important new addition to Oregon State’s nationally renowned veterinary medicine program. Combining over 120,000 brick and 32,000 brick, the project consisted of three main additions: a new wing to the main building called the North Addition; a new building auxiliary building containing a horse treadmill, and a brand new covered walking arena for equine rehabilitation.

South Meadows Middle School

This new middle school used CMU veneer and structural block in concert to achieve an ideal harmony of aesthetics and cost. 11,000 structural block was used as the backbone of the long hallway dividing four classroom pods on the building, and the exterior of the building uses 60,000 veneer block to complete its modern, stylish appearance. Working closely with Howard S. Wright over two bid phases, J&S has helped Hillsboro School District prepare for the population boom in Portland’s western suburbs.

Pearl Self Storage

This project filled an important need in the area – multiple high rise condominiums had just been built in the area, and everyone needed some additional storage. The primary challenge on this project was meeting an ambitious schedule: the goal was to lay 30,000 block in 20 days. Working closely with general contractor Pacific Development, J&S Masonry worked through the hottest days of the summer in order to meet the ambitious deadlines.
